Frequently Asked Questions
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy, also known as talk therapy, is a collaborative process between a therapist and a client designed to help individuals understand and manage their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It can be effective for addressing various issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, and personal growth.
is therapy right for me?
Therapy can be beneficial for anyone who is struggling with emotional or psychological challenges, or simply seeking personal growth. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure about certain aspects of your life, therapy might be a helpful option. A consultation with a therapist can help determine if it’s the right fit for you.
How long does each session last?
Typically, individual therapy sessions last about 50 minutes. However, the duration may vary depending on the type of therapy and individual needs. I will discuss the best schedule for you.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions needed varies from person to person. Some individuals may benefit from just a few sessions, while others may need ongoing support. I will work with you to determine the appropriate length of treatment based on your goals and progress.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you discuss with me is kept private, except in cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law. I will explain the limits of confidentiality during your first session.
Do you offer virtual or in-person sessions?
I currently offer therapy appointments exclusively in a virtual format. This allows for flexible scheduling and the convenience of attending sessions from the comfort of your own home. You will need a private, quiet place to take your sessions from and a strong phone or internet connection. For all virtual therapy sessions, I will need to know your location at the time of the session in case of emergencies.
Do you accept insurance?
I currently partner with Headway to accept Kaiser NorCal, Aetna, Oxford, Optum, and United Healthcare. For all other insurances, I provide receipts that you can submit directly to your insurance company for reimbursement (called “Superbills”). I also offer sliding scale fees for those who need financial assistance.
*Please note that relational therapy is not covered under insurance, and will be processed as private pay.
What are your fees?
Individual Psychotherapy Session (50 minutes) — $150
Relationship Psychotherapy Session (50 minutes) — $175
Sliding Scale — I reserve a small number of my psychotherapy spots for sliding scale for individual psychotherapy sessions. Please inquire for current availability. Priority goes to those with marginalized identities and with limited finances.
Payment Options — I currently accept payment via: cash, check, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), or Zelle.
What should I expect during my first session?
During your first session, I will gather information about your current concerns, personal history, and goals for therapy. This is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapeutic process and to determine if you feel comfortable going forward with me as your therapist.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with my therapist?
It’s important that you feel comfortable and supported by your therapist. If you ever feel that the therapeutic relationship isn’t working for you, please discuss your concerns with me. If necessary, I can help you find another therapist who may be a better fit.
