LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Care

It takes immense courage to seek therapy, especially for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. You may be feeling a mix of emotions—perhaps uncertainty, apprehension, or even hope. It’s completely normal to have concerns about finding a therapist who truly understands your experiences and respects your identity. Your feelings are valid, and you deserve a space where you can be your authentic self without fear of judgment.

Navigating life as part of the LGBTQIA+ community can come with unique challenges. Whether it’s facing societal pressures, dealing with discrimination, or exploring your identity and relationships, these experiences can impact your mental and emotional well-being. I want you to know that you’re not alone in these struggles. I believe that healing starts when you feel seen and heard for who you truly are.

You deserve a space where your feelings, experiences, and identity are validated. Whether you’re dealing with feelings of isolation, anxiety, or just need a safe space to explore your thoughts, therapy can provide that support. If you decide to reach out, I will respect your pace and focus on what matters to you.

my approach

My approach to LGBTQIA+ affirmative care is rooted in respect, inclusivity, and empowerment. I am not only trained in trans-affirmative care, but also deeply committed to advocating for the rights and well-being of all LGBTQIA+ individuals. I prioritize creating an environment where clients feel safe to express themselves fully and authentically through the following:

  • Affirmation of Identity: Recognizing and validating your sexual orientation and gender identity as central to your experience.

  • Cultural Responsiveness: Privileging the unique cultural, social, and historical contexts affecting your lived experience, including discrimination, stigma, and community strengths.

  • Intersectionality: Recognizing how overlapping identities (e.g., race, class, disability) impact your experiences.

  • Community Resources: Connecting you to LGBTQIA-specific resources, support groups, and community organizations.

Areas of focus

  • Navigating identity, whether it's sexual orientation or gender identity, can be complex and deeply personal. I provide a supportive space to explore these aspects of self, affirm your identity, and address any related concerns or questions.

  • Coming out can be a significant and sometimes challenging process. I offer guidance and support to help you navigate this journey, dealing with potential family dynamics, social acceptance, and self-acceptance.

  • For those undergoing gender transition, I provide compassionate care and support throughout the process. We work together to address emotional and psychological aspects, as well as practical considerations related to transitioning.

  • LGBTQIA+ individuals may face unique issues in their relationships, whether with partners, family, or friends. I help navigate relationship challenges, enhance communication, and address any concerns related to acceptance and understanding.

  • Experiences of discrimination, prejudice, and trauma can have a profound impact on mental health. I support clients in processing these experiences, building resilience, and developing strategies to cope with and address discrimination.
